Friday Fun: Enjoy the Weekend

It's almost here! The official start to the weekend for us 9-5'ers, although Moms are never really off duty!

Now I love GIFs. Love them. And even though this isn't my absolute favorite because honestly it makes me a little bit nauseated... Grace is on a mega Despicable Me kick right now so it's how I've been spending my weekend mornings lately!

Weeeeee!

Where's Your Motivation?

Where do you find your motivation? Generally, I find mine on Pinterest. Here's what I'm currently channeling:

Tutorial: Make an Animated GIF of Your Baby’s First 12 Months

@graceandjosie

Are you ready for a fun project? If you’re like me and LOVE animated GIFs it’s time to learn how to make your own! Now, my subject is Grace’s Monthly photo shoot, but you can use this tutorial to make a GIF about anything.

First Things First!
Before you begin your project, decide on your subject and gather your photos.

If you do want to make a GIF based on monthly photo shoots here's some additional info:
I recommend monthly photo shoots with your little one starting at 1 month old. If you have a white onesie and monthly stickers, even better! We found these stickers on Etsy for around $10. I guess you could even make your own if you were feeling particularly crafty!

Step One: Download Photoscape (free)
I trust CNET, it may look a bit dodgy but it's legit. Use this link http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/download.php

Step Two: Open Photoscape and click on Animated GIF

Step Three: Select Folder and start adding your photos

Step Four: Edit Your Settings
Once you’ve dropped in the photos you want to use you can:
  • Change Time
  • Change Effect
  • Set Canvas Size (note: this is where you will really affect the size of your output file, if you need a smaller file size, set your canvas size around the 300 px mark.)
  • Background Color
  • Image Size (Stretch or Full)
  • Photo Alignment

·    Step Five: Name Your File and Save

That's it!

Beat the January Blues with a cleaner and more organized house!

@graceandjosie

Just start. That's the hardest part. Once you get started there's no telling where you'll end!

For the past two Januarys I've participated in Apartment Therapy's January Cure.
What is it?
It's a month long program that sets you on a journey to a cleaner and more organized home. Who couldn't use that! It comes complete with a calendar that gives you manageable action items all month long. Even though January is almost over, you could really apply this to any month.

Katie and I have both been working our way through the January Cure. We'll share an update on our journey tomorrow!

Next Day Night Owl

First of all, I love this sweater from OshKosh. ♥
Second, look at this face. It's a toddler who needs sleep. This little Night Owl has been waking up in the middle of the night all week and has the dark circles under her eyes to show it. Poor little thing. Poor little family who also has to get up in the middle of the night.
I hope this phase passes soon.

Throwback Thursday: Story Land

August 2013
Grace's first trip to Story Land where should would rather play in a sandbox and stand on trucks than go on rides.

My Monday Night

While Grace fell asleep before she even got home at 6:00 p.m.

Mom had an extra hour and a half of cleaning time!
And it was immensely satisfying.

Happy Monday.

**UPDATE**
Guess who was up from 2:00-3:30 a.m. last night.
Answer: The ENTIRE family.
I knew it.

Latest Netflix Obsession: Scandal, followed by Revenge

Thanks to modern technology, we as a people have the ability to consume entire shows- seasons upon seasons- during one Christmas break.

Now, Matt and I have been binge watching since the early days when the work had to be done by collecting seasons of DVDs. I have fond memories of watching hours and hours of LOST on a tiny portable DVD player.

Anyway, back to the matter at hand! My latest Netflix obsessions are Scandal and Revenge. I started watching them right before Thanksgiving and have been hooked ever since. I know I know, still! Yes, I have to share screen time with a toddler who demands Despicable Me 2 night and day and a husband who has his own Netflix obsession agenda (including Lilyhammer, House of Cards, etc.).

Let's start with Scandal. The idea came from this post actually came out of the fact that so many of my friends have mentioned recently that they're watching Scandal - like just started watching it. The show has been on for quite a while actually but like many cult followings, a few seasons on Netflix will really lure in the viewers.

So why should you watch? Because Olivia Pope is someone you want on your side. She's a fixer. She has a killer wardrobe. And she's got a direct line to Elmo. Just kidding but I know the Moms will appreciate two worlds colliding.

When I need a break from Scandal I watch Revenge. My mom and I started watching Revenge together so that's our thing. It's more of a guilty pleasure show - way more soap-opera like but sooo good!

30 Day Mac & Cheese Cleanse (30 Toddler Meals)

@graceandjosie

Happy New Year! As we're all aware, January is the month for resolutions, cleanses, clean slates, etc. Last year, my husband and I embarked on a Juicing Odyssey after watching one too many Netflix documentaries (Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead) and while we didn't stick with it all year, it was still a good experience and we do continue to juice, but not as regularly as we'd like. And also..beware, as I always say, "you're just one Netflix documentary away from becoming a vegetarian", so just tread lightly in that department. I was a vegetarian for a while and it made me totally sick because clearly I wasn't responsible enough to not get a vitamin deficiency. But I digress.

We're here to talk about my toddler! She's now almost 2, which is the easy way to put that she's 22 months, or 1 year and 10 months, or will be 2 in February, you get the idea. You see, even at the age of almost 2 Grace has an unhealthy obsession with macaroni and cheese. She would literally eat it at every meal if it were up to her. Every time I ask her what she wants to eat the answer is usually the same. Macaroni and Cheese.

I figured it was time to step in. Now, it's not like we're feeding her macaroni and cheese around the clock, but we do give in to it more than we should so we've challenged ourselves to come up with some yummy alternatives. So here we go!

The photo above is actually Grace eating and enjoying Spinach Crepes from Crazy Burger in Narragansett. When my husband ordered them for her I was shocked, but even more so when she happily ate them! So give these things a try. Your kids might surprise you!
