An Awesome Chicken Soup Recipe for Cold Season

Chicken soup is the old standby for comfort food during cold season. And for good reason- It's helping you recover from those nasty cold viruses! Last week I found an awesome Chicken Noodle Soup Recipe for Cold Season.

Chicken Noodle Soup for Colds

In fact, my household is currently in recovery mode from the latest early season cold. When my husband first fell ill last weekend I took to Google to find a recipe to make chicken soup with the leftover roasted chicken from the night before. What I found was the perfect recipe for our ailing household! Now, one week later I'm sick in bed as I type this post, wishing I froze some of the stock!

Try it out and let me know how it works for you! The old modification I made was to add a little extra Kosher salt since most of the from scratch chicken soups I make taste a little bland.

The old adage: Starve a Fever, Feed a Cold? Well it's true. Eat healthy, nutrient-rich foods during a cold will help you recover faster. Where did I confirm this? How Stuff Works of course! (love that site - and podcast!)

A scientific study confirms that one of the best things to eat when you have a cold is a nice steaming bowl of chicken soup. University of Nebraska Medical Center researcher Dr. Stephen Rennard analyzed several chicken soup recipes, including his grandmother's, and found that the popular comfort food had anti-inflammatory properties. In particular, chicken soup reduced the movement of neutrophils, the white blood cells whose activity in the upper respiratory tract can cause the congestion and other symptoms that we associate with colds.
