Pack These Items for Italy
We just returned from 2 weeks in Italy (with a quick stop in Amsterdam first!) and I can say with assurance that these items were handy in getting us up, down, and across the country. We visited cities, country hills, and the seaside so you'll see a range of items that helped us in each location.
Electronics for European Travel
If you are heading to Europe from the US, check to see what kind of power adapters you'll need. For Italy and The Netherlands, this two-pronged power adapter with two USB ports was perfect to charge a family's worth of electronics. Since we were away from our accommodations for most of each day a portable charger came in handy to make sure we had enough power for our phones. We used AT&T's International Day Pass on 1 phone per day so we could use our mobile device as we would in the US without excessive roaming charges. Finally, under this heading, I would recommend an Apple AirTag to put in any checked bags you'll be flying with. Luckily we didn't have any baggage issues (huge sigh of relief!) but we also had all direct flights and did not travel during the height of summer chaos in Europe.
Travel Clothing & Accessories
Although it's not on this list, I brought a few lightweight dresses from Patagonia, J.Crew, and Old Navy that were easy to pack and comfortable in the hot summer sun. Mostly, I made sure to wear these slip shorts from Tommy John to avoid chafing, but we also had Body Glide on hand (IYKYK). It was kind of a pain to lug around my packable sun hat, but I also don't think I would have done well without it! The Italian August sun was intense so I'm glad I had it! For all the walking we did, I had two pairs of shoes that served me well. The first and most worn were leather sneakers from J.Crew - they're not as comfortable as my running shoes, but they looked cute with dresses. The second must-have shoe was these EVA Birkenstock Gizeh sandals in black. I started breaking them in earlier this summer so by the time they were really put to the test they were like butter.
